Contemporary German Labeled Violin: August von Hardenberg Violinmacher in Saxony n. 170 (number hand written, no date) Description: This instrument has a desirable corduroy textured two piece top of medium grain spruce and an beautiful one piece back of narrow flamed maple. The ribs and the scroll are made of matching prominent flamed European maple. This is a Strad model violin. The varnish is beautifully applied and it has wonderful texture with a slight antiqued look and very warm colors. This violin is nicely set up with a new bridge, and a beautiful matching set of boxwood fittings which have black accents. The tone of this violin falls between bright and dark and it is very balanced from upper to lower register. It sounds rich, warm and resonates well. The response is quick and it is very powerful.
